I'm DAR

The first thing they ask is who are you so i'm going to tell you who I am. I'm DAR which happens to be my initials, my first name is Devyn and my middle name is Alexis and my last name is Rivera. How did my parents come up with my name Devyn.. Well its a funny story when my mother was younger and way before me, the family would always say how darling she was. They would tell her mother who is my nana " Wow Lupe what a darling daughter you have". Soon before you know it she got the nickname DAR and it stuck with her ever since. My mom ended up marrying Frank Rivera and it just so happened that his last name starts with a R. She knew from that point she had to name me with a D name and she came up with Devyn Alexis Rivera. My mother actually named me after a playboy, playmate from the eighty's named Devin DeVasquez. My mom really liked the name Devin but wanted it to look feminine so she was thinking of other ways to spell it. Finally her older sister gave her the idea to spell it with a Y and then from that point on I was Devyn with a Y.

Having a name that can be a girls or guys name can be a little difficult sometimes. For example, first impressions people always say " Isn't Devyn a boys name?" and my response is it can be both! People will always try to get a rise out of you, to see how far they can push you. When I was younger it would get me so angry when I would get comments about being named Devyn. Now that i'm much older and i'm better at handling things I just have to be mellow and say it can go either way. People try and be funny every once in awhile and make a joke about my name but I don't give them much of a reaction to feed off of. When something is unusual to people they tend to make a joke out of it because they aren't sure how else to react. Once it starts to get old people get use to it and leave it be. Being named Devyn is unique and I wouldn't want to be anyone else. I'm happy who I am and who i'm becoming.
